She held engineering and manage- ment positions at Stratus Com- puter, Sun Microsystems, Com- putervision, and Honeywell before moving to the business side and holding executive offcer positions at Visual Networks and Netezza, later acquired by IBM. Cotter recently completed her doctorate in work-based learning at the University of Pennsylvania. Mindy Charski Mindy Charski, who wrote "Is Your Retirement on Track? Nine Tips for Investing for the Long Term," is a Dallas-based freelancer who specializes in business journalism. She began covering personal fnance as a rookie reporter at U.S. News & World Report more than 15 years ago—back when a cutting-edge story she wrote ran with the headline "Online Bill Paying Is Still Waiting for the Big Payoff."
